  The Gorges du Doux velorail borrows for over 12 kilometers the historical railway of Vivarais built in 1891.
  Carved on the mountainside with many structures (bridges, viaducts, tunnels) the line is the ultimate way to discover the beautiful landscapes of the Gorges du Doux, a tributary of the Rhone in the north of the Ardèche.

  Ascent by railcar

  Classified as ‘historical monument’ the ‘Billard’ railcar flows on the line since 1938. It was completely restored in 2011. Its five cylinder ’Berliet’  engine is cooled by radiators placed in the front and on the roof.

• The commune of Crestet unites, since the Révolution, two old parish le Crestet and Monteil. She comports two villages and many hamlets.
• His territory,covered on more of its half by pines and chestnuts, extends to the north the meanders du Doux, wich circumvents initially the ridge de Monteil before digging a passagee in the cirque of Banchet, dominated by the mountain the Trois Croix, in the south to the line of the peaks of the first mountains of Haut Vivarais (serre de Montourat : 856 m) which the very old way of of the Doux borrowed.Of these heigts, panoramic sight on the vallée du Doux and his villages
• The village of Crestet is build a long a road. To be signalated is the cross in front of the church, probably a cross of the plague at the end of the XVIème century, the church and his bell tower and also the old laundry under the village.
• The commune is also characterized by an important number of crosses, out of stone, of metal or out of wood and with his remarkable fountaines : fountain St Martin at Crestet, fountain St Pierre at Monteil, fountain "Grosjean" or the "vieillard" on the D534, fountain du "chien" on the D578.

• Monteil is a village that has been build around a church of the XIème century. This church is very remarkable with his porch that is decorated with two splendid capitals.
• The fountain St-Pierre where we went every year for the procession at the day of the St-Pierre (29 June) to bless all the grumpy children. Today this tradition is still going on, every last Sunday of June or the first Sunday of July.
